(Port) Wine of the month June 2023: Niepoort Garrafeira 1863

Knowing that this Port was auctioned in a prestigious Magnum for more than 100.000 Euro definitely makes you think twice before you taste this, especially amongst so many great old Tawny Ports from the 19th century: Transparent medium orange colour with a hint of olive reflections at the rim. Unbelievably fresh and balanced bouquet with a mix of herbs, malt and coffee in a breathtaking sublime complexity. This continues in the palate with a deep structure without getting fat: coffee, chocolate and hints of tea. Long and multi-layered aftertaste. Historic in many ways. 20/20
